Tonight, we watched The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. This Disney movie is only a little over an hour long and is a perfect Halloween season movie. It’s actually two 30-minute movies; the first about Rat and Mole and their adventure trying to keep Mr. Toad out of trouble. The second is the always scary story of the Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane.
LooHoo and I did not really enjoy the story of Mr. Toad; although, I did think it was fun to see Rat who looks just like Basil of Baker Street from The Great Mouse Detective (a Disney movie I am anxious to see again as part of our Disney movie event). We both enjoyed the story of Ichabod, but I must admit that I have never really understood it. I mean, seriously, if you heard a really scary story, would you go home through the woods that same night? Not me! I’d definitely stay overnight and go home the next morning.
So, do we recommend it? Yes, for a short Halloween movie… although there is one usual “old” Disney movie caution – the animals at one of the parties in Mr. Toad’s story are drunk (they are all passed out so it’s not too obnoxious). If you’ve been reading these reviews, you won’t be surprised by the drunk characters in this movie as that seems to be a theme in many of these original movies.
So, with the conclusion of this movie, we are moving onto a new decade – the 1950s! Disney released 22 movies between 1950 and 1960 – any chance we will get through them all before LooHoo heads off to college next fall?
